Summer is coming, and for many of us it feels as though it is already here! Whether it’s an annual camping trip, BBQs or graduation parties, lots of activities are held outdoors. So what’s a girl to do when she wants to keep her long hair but also wants to beat the heat?
Simple answer: braids, buns and ponys. These simple yet chic alternatives to wearing your hair down will keep you cool and at the cutting edge of styles.
Ponys were all over the red carpet this award season. There were ponys worn high, ponys worn low yet all were simple and chic. Just because you are wearing your hair up, remember you still want to dry it properly and smooth the ends whether they’re curly or straight. Tease your crown just a bit and smooth or finger comb back the sides. To finish off the pony take a piece and wrap it around the hair tie and secure with a bobby pin.

Buns or knots are another style that can be worn to beat the heat and humidity. What is truly wonderful about these styles is once they are up and secure, you don’t have to worry about your hair. You don’t have to worry about the humidity making your hair flat or frizzy because it is all secured beautifully on top of your head. Do the same you did with the pony (in whatever placement you desire) and then take the tail and wrap. You can wrap it around the base for a ballerina bun or divide the tail in two and tie in a knot or multiple knots. Secure the ends with a bobby pin.

Braids might require a bit more practice but once they are mastered they are a beautiful statement piece you can incorporate in long, or up styles. Section out the area you want in the braid. After you divide into three sections wrap the left over the middle and then the right over the middle. When you wrap the right section again incorporate more hair. Do this with the left and the remainder of the braid to create a French braid look. Secure with a clear band and Voila!
